Purpose/Mission of Workgroup
The Minority Health Work Group's mission is to diminish the health disparities between the total population and minority groups. The Work Group's efforts are focused in providing leadership to national, state, local, and territorial health organization in addressing public health issues of racial and ethnic minority populations through health education and health promotion. The Minority Health Work Group has been working on the development, implementation and evaluation of a national minority internship program. The DHPE/CDC Internship Program for Students of Minority-Serving Institutions was established to strengthen the development of minority students by creating partnerships between minority-serving institutions (historically black colleges and universities and Hispanic-serving institutions, Tribal-serving Institutions) and the public health community so as to create a highly qualified, diverse workforce; recruit/retain minorities in public health education, and provide public health leadership, services and better health outcomes for all communities.
