DHPE's mission is building on principles and practices of health promotion and education, DHPE strengthens public health capacity in policy and in systems change to improve the health of all and achieve health equity.  Below are programs to support our mission.

Health Equity

DHPE activities focusing on inequitable distributions of social determinants lead to health disparities and inequity include Interns & Fellows, the Community Market Analyses Project using market research technologies to design effective public health interventions, and the Health Equity Tool incorporating health equity into public health practice through practical strategies to apply these concepts into funding opportunities.

Systems Change for Health

Systems Change for Health competency-based training program was developed recognizing that health problems are influenced by policies and environments that either sustain healthy behaviors or fail to support them. Major public health problems will not be solved solely by individual actions, but by coming together to forge a society where healthy choices are easy and popular.

School Health

Building the capacity of public health organizations to influence systems and environmental change on a population basis requires that they work collaboratively with major institutions such as schools and workplaces. DHPE can help states and communities work more effectively with the schools in their jurisdictions to improve the health and safety of both the students and of those who work in schools through our School Employee Wellness program.

Health Policy & Advocacy

DHPE provides a voice for members through funding priorities which include preserving and fully funding the Prevention and Public Health Fund, with emphasis on Community Transformation Grants, maintaining and increasing funds for State CDC supported Coordinated Chronic Disease Grants, and assuring funding integrity of the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant.  Our legislative priority is to include health in all legislation with an emphasis on violence prevention and control reauthorization act. We also focus on equity.  Subscribe to Alerts for Legislative & Funding Actions.
