Men and Lupus Webinar

In Celebration of Men’s Health Month, the Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE) is re-broadcasting its Men and Lupus Webinar. Lupus is a chronic disease that mostly impacts women of childbearing age, but may also develop in children and men.  Lupus is 4 -5 times more prevalent in minorities and over 10% of all lupus patients are male.

The Men and Lupus Webinar explains how lupus presents in men as compared to women; describes racial/ethnic differences in men with lupus; and explores the importance of early diagnosis of lupus in men.  This illuminating webinar is presented by Dr. Irene Blanco, MD, MS, Associate Dean of Diversity Enhancement, Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Completion of the webinar and evaluation assessment results in 1 free continuing education unit (CEU).  View the recorded webinar here:  www.bit.ly/MensLupus

The Epilepsy Foundation joins the Men’s Health Network in the celebration of Men’s Health during the month of June to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. Males and non-Hispanic Blacks had the highest age-adjusted death rates with epilepsy from 2005 to 2014, per a 2016 study utilizing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Higher epilepsy mortality among men and minority populations demonstrates the increased need for health educators, public health professionals, primary care providers and students to be informed of epilepsy and how to support men living with epilepsy. Learn more at epilepsy.com.
