New - 8th Edition of Dietary Guidelines Released

Recently,the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture released the eighth edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020. Overall, the guidelines continue to recommend that Americans eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and reduce their intake of saturated fats, sodium and sugar. The final guidelines dialed back recommendations in the draft guidelines that were slammed by meat producers for recommending that Americans eat less meat.

Karen DeSalvo, MD, MPH, MSc, Acting Assistant Secretary for Health and National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and Kevin W. Concannon, Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture released a blog post about the new guidelines.
