The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends combined diet and physical activity promotion programs for people with increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, and now a new "What Works" Fact Sheet and One-pager for Diabetes Control and Prevention are available.

Among major findings, combined diet and physical activity programs can:

  • Improve health outcomes
  • Increase the likelihood of achieving normal blood sugar
  • Improve diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk factors, including overweight, high blood glucose, high blood pressure, and abnormal lipid profile
