DHPE CongratulatesSpring 2015 DHPE Intern Nicole Offer of Bowie State University in Maryland. Nicole, who is a graduating senior, submitted her DHPE Health Equity Internship abstract to the State of Public Health Conference on October 6, 2015 in Athens, Georgia, and it was accepted for a poster session.
Her project entitled, “District of Columbia HPV Ambassador Program and #VaxN8 Campaign,” was established at the DC Department of Health, Cancer Programs Division, Bureau of Cancer and Chronic Disease under the direction of her preceptor and Division Chief Amari Pearson-Fields, PhD, MPH.
During her DHPE internship, she started the adaption of a HPV curriculum to include cancer prevention education in efforts to establish a peer training and social media campaign to increase the 3rd dosage of the HPV vaccine in the District of Columbia. This project has been continued by Summer DHPE Intern Romico Davis, who is also a Bowie State University graduate.
