During the month of May, Directors of Health Promotion and Education staff provided training to leaders from 17 sub-recipient organizations funded by the National WIC Association for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Implementation and Dissemination for Chronic Disease Prevention initiative and also organized and hosted a meeting with the five funded national partners on May 27 to coordinate joint planning.
The meeting with the sub-recipients, which took place in Los Angeles, California, focused on nutrition initiatives and covered health equity and how to calculate potential reach with policy, systems and environmental (PSE) approaches. Participating sub-recipients shared their progress in building their local coalitions and also shared their challenges, and were able to identify possible solutions before the conclusion of the meeting.
National partners that participated in the planning meeting included American Heart Association, American Planning Association, National WIC Association, Society for Public Health Education and DHPE.
Selected sub-recipients that are part of the national initiative will work to reduce tobacco use and exposure, improve nutrition, increase physical activity and improve access to chronic disease prevention, risk reduction, and management opportunities.
Funding for the national initiative was made in part by the CDC through FOA DP14-1418.
