Former DHPE Intern Aileen Soto has accepted a community healthposition with the Health Sciences Center at the University of Texas, El Paso Campus (UTEP) in El Paso, Texas.
“I am very excited about it, and I can't wait to start,” Soto said.
Soto will work with the Healthy Fit Program, which connects residents without health insurance to free health services and referrals. She will interview and follow-up with residents to make sure they utilize and make the most of these resources.
DHPE member Holly Mata, PhD served as the internship preceptor for Soto’s Spring 2015 DHPE Health Equity Internship. Soto’s internship with the YMCA of El Paso was a binational, bilingual advocacy training program designed to build capacity to promote effective & evidence-based alcohol prevention strategies, and to promote the role of policy and environmental change in reducing alcohol-related problems at the community level.
“I’m so proud of Aileen. She was a great addition to our team and [has] represented DHPE enthusiastically and articulately," said. Dr. Mata.
