Congratulations to DHPE Fellow Kristen Hernandez, MPH, for the acceptance of her abstract "Leveraging local data to improve public policy: Lessons learned from recent policy advocacy effort in New Mexico/Texas/Mexico border region" by the New Mexico Public Health Association for its annual conference. The abstract was co-authored with DHPE Member Holly Mata, in addition to past DHPE Interns Lydia Garcia and Tiffany Garcia. Kristen is currently placed at the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals for the DHPE Fellowship.
According to Holly, “what's cool about this presentation is that DHPE interns were involved in virtually everything we are presenting on. Lydia Garcia and Tiffany Garcia were involved in the smoke-free work we'll be sharing, and Daniela Marquez (Fall 2014 DHPE Intern) and Aileen Soto (Current DHPE Intern) were/are involved in the alcohol work we'll be sharing. So throughout the talk we will be able to highlight DHPE student involvement.”
“Life Expectancy Trends in Arkansas with a Closer Look at Red Counties” is the title of the accepted poster by DHPE Fellow Rahma Mkuu, MPH, who is placed at the Office of Minority Health & Health Disparities in the Arkansas Department of Health. She will present this poster at the 7th Annual Health Disparities Conference at the Teachers’ College of Columbia University in Harlem, New York in early March.
