DHPE Member Call for Action
Tuesday, August 19, 2014
Members of Congress are headed back to their home districts to
connect with constituents over the five-week August recess. This is a prime
opportunity for public health advocates to make our voices heard about the
importance of prevention—and the Prevention and Public Health Fund.
We’re asking you to speak up for prevention by reaching out this month to your
legislator, attending a town-hall meeting, or penning a letter to the editor,
Op-ed or commentary for your local paper or news website.
for America’s Health (TFAH) has created a toolkit with helpful information and
strategies on how to engage elected officials during the August recess period.
To access the TFAH toolkit, visit http://healthyamericans.org/health-issues/latest-developments/summer-recess-toolkit.
In addition, the American Public Health
Association is in the midst of its annual Public Health ACTion Campaign
(PHACT) in which it urges advocates to tell members of Congress about the importance
of public health funding, including the Prevention Fund. Check out the
fact sheets, talking points, sample questions for town hall meetings and other
available materials through the above link.
If we can assist with your efforts let us know.
Have a great rest of the summer.
