Ryan Budget Drives a Tank Over Public Health. Here’s an
excerpt from the Coalition for Health Funding letter…
"Chairman Ryan wants to protect the well-being of
soldiers and their families, but our nation's soldiers, like all Americans,
rely on public health programs here on American soil...These programs discover
cures for disease and keep our food and water safe. They provide needed mental
health services to our returning wounded, and they help families rebuild their
lives after natural disasters. Continued cuts to public health will do Americans
more harm than good."
Chairman Ryan in his budget strives to resolve
"contradictions" in current defense policy, "between the threats
we face and the resources we've committed to meeting them." Public health
programs face the same mismatch--an eroding public health infrastructure
buckling under the weight of increased health demands.

United also released a statement, Ryan Budget Represents New Low for Core Federal Programs,
opposing the budget:
NDD United applauded the
Bipartisan Budget Act negotiated by Chairman Paul Ryan and Chairman Patty
Murray. This compromise represented a step in the right direction, designed to
restore order to the federal budget and appropriations process, and allow for
some much needed reinvestment in our nation's eroding defense and domestic
priorities. We had hoped lawmakers would build on this momentum and work
together to adopt a more balanced approach to our medium and long-term fiscal
challenges that would, among other things, end the harmful sequestration cuts
once and for all. Instead, the budget blueprint released by Chairman Ryan today
takes a drastic step backwards, slashing funding for core domestic programs far
below the already
