DHPE Stands with the Coalition for Health Funding & NDD United On Speaking Out Against Ryan Budget

DHPE members we ask that you, too, speak out against the Ryan Budget. Here’s why…..

Ryan Budget Drives a Tank Over Public Health. Here’s an excerpt from the Coalition for Health Funding letter…

"Chairman Ryan wants to protect the well-being of soldiers and their families, but our nation's soldiers, like all Americans, rely on public health programs here on American soil...These programs discover cures for disease and keep our food and water safe. They provide needed mental health services to our returning wounded, and they help families rebuild their lives after natural disasters. Continued cuts to public health will do Americans more harm than good."

Chairman Ryan in his budget strives to resolve "contradictions" in current defense policy, "between the threats we face and the resources we've committed to meeting them." Public health programs face the same mismatch--an eroding public health infrastructure buckling under the weight of increased health demands.

For visual learners, here's a handy chart courtesy of the Committee for Education Funding. This picture is worth a thousand words.

NDD United also released a statement, Ryan Budget Represents New Low for Core Federal Programs, opposing the budget:

NDD United applauded the Bipartisan Budget Act negotiated by Chairman Paul Ryan and Chairman Patty Murray. This compromise represented a step in the right direction, designed to restore order to the federal budget and appropriations process, and allow for some much needed reinvestment in our nation's eroding defense and domestic priorities. We had hoped lawmakers would build on this momentum and work together to adopt a more balanced approach to our medium and long-term fiscal challenges that would, among other things, end the harmful sequestration cuts once and for all. Instead, the budget blueprint released by Chairman Ryan today takes a drastic step backwards, slashing funding for core domestic programs far below the already
too-austere sequestration levels.
