The Joint Statement of Collaboration for Local School Wellness Policies was released on the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) website today: http://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/wellness-policy-statement. USDA FNS, US Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the US Department of Education, along with 26 national associations/organizations (including DHPE) have issued this joint statement to recognize the important role schools play in promoting wellness among staff, students, and families. It is our hope that this public statement of support will provide a unified and consistent message to schools and communities about local school wellness policies.
You can also read more about the joint statement on the USDA Blog (the story should be posted today/tomorrow): http://blogs.usda.gov/
Today, also released is the new "School Nutrition Environment and Wellness Resources” website: http://healthymeals.nal.usda.gov/school-wellness-resources. This website is organized in a way that makes it easier for schools and districts to find resources to help them in the wellness policy process. Please see the announcement below.
