As a member of the Coalition for Health Funding, DHPE’s Executive Director made 5 Hill visits – staffers with Senators Coburn (OK), Landrieu (LA), Portman (OH), Cochran (MS), and Chambliss (GA). We advocated for a balanced approach to deficit reduction, with no further cuts to the non-defense discretionary pot and an end to sequestration. Specifically, Susan made the point that investing now in prevention and health promotion will pay off in the future and is the only real hope for controlling health care costs. The staffers told us that members of Congress are NOT hearing from constituents about harmful effects of sequestration and budget cuts. PLEASE let your members of Congress know of programs you cannot continue because of budget cuts and be sure those you serve know that cuts in services are due to federal budget cuts (if true).
