The Senate bill would provide $290 million for the Community Transformation Grant program (including $280 million from the Prevention Fund). Specifically, "The Committee directs CDC to award this funding in another round of community grants in fiscal year 2014. The Committee directs CDC to give a priority to communities that request funding to implement "Blue Zone" goals and strategies, in particular multi-sector approaches to public health interventions in areas such as transportation, agriculture, and housing. Blue Zones implement evidence-based practices identified in groups and cultures from around the world where people live measurably longer lives. In addition, priority should be given to communities and clusters of contiguous communities that are economically disadvantaged and whose residents have disproportionately poor health outcomes."
