From October to June, trainers conducted 47 Shaping Policy for Health trainings, reaching more than 1,000 participants. About 25 more trainings are confirmed on the schedule through September, bringing the total anticipated above 70 for the year. DHPE's national cadre of trainers continues to learn new courses and have updates from the UNC curriculum developers. DHPE's staff members coordinate training schedules, identify trainers to match with states, advise hosts on training set-up, debrief with hosts, and manage data. They also provide feedback to trainers, write evaluations for the host sites, and report on progress to funders and the DHPE board.
"We work closely with each state and local entity to provide training and technical assistance that is tailored to meet their needs. Each state is different, but the Shaping Policy for Health curriculum provides the tools for systems change that applies to them all! DHPE is here to help you "shape" your future to meet the ever-changing health paradigm," says training director Doreleena Sammons-Posey. The new assistant, Mary Jo Olsavsky, started work with DHPE in May.
