Dr. Janet Collins has been selected as Director, Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity and will join the Division on Monday, March 25. Dr. Collins knows DHPE, having spent the majority of her career in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. She joined CDC as Chief of the Surveillance and Evaluation Research Branch in the Division of Adolescent and School Health, and subsequently served as Deputy Director and Director of NCCDPHP. Her work has been at the intersection of science, policy, and community health promotion in the areas of sexual risk behaviors, tobacco, nutrition, and physical activity. During her tenure with DASH she served for one year as acting Director, DNPAO. For the past three years Dr. Collins has served as the Associate Director for Program in the Office of the Director, CDC. Dr. Collins is a behavioral scientist with a PhD in educational psychology from Stanford University and a master's degree in clinical psychology from San Diego State University. Dr. Collins has published widely in the area of chronic disease prevention and control. Her recent publications focus on policy interventions including reducing childhood obesity through policy change and using health impact assessment to influence public health policy.
