Sixteen undergraduate and graduate students participated in the Fall 2012 DHPE Internship Program. Interns were placed in various federal, state and local agencies and community-based organizations across the country and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The twelve-week internship program concluded on December 14th. While gaining practical experience in public health, students also participated in weekly webinars to learn more about health disparities and receive professional development. Here are a few thoughts from students that participated in the fall internship.

As a student in Jackson, MS I feel highly fortunate to have been allotted this experience, because there are little to none internship opportunities for students in my particular field of study.

Kendrick Neely
Jackson State University
Internship –My Brother's Keeper, Jackson, MS

During this program, I met and developed relationships with many influential people in the field of public health and learned the importance of building and strengthening professional partnerships in program and career development.

Tanisha Douglas,
Trinity Washington University
Internship –The District of Columbia Department of Health, Washington, DC

Thanks to this opportunity I have broaden my horizons and acquired new experiences in the public health field. Working at CDC helped me to develop skills outside the classroom. It exposed me to the real world experience, helping me grow professionally.

Micmarie Ramos
San Juan Bautista School of Medicine
Internship – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dengue Branch, San Juan, Puerto Rico
