DHPE is pleased to welcome Karen Thompkins, MPH to its staff as the Manager of Internships and Fellowships. Although a native of Severna Park MD, Ms. Thompkins has lived in metropolitan Atlanta for the last 19 years. She obtained an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Spelman College and a Master's Degree in Public Health from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She has over 14 years of experience in public health working in both the public, non-profit and private sectors. Her past scope of activities include public health promotion, program management, strategic planning, community engagement and social marketing. Most recently, Ms. Thompkins was a contractor at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and performed social marketing activities as part of the Communities Putting Prevention to Work Program. She has worked closely with undergraduate and graduate students throughout her public health career, having managed interns, determined placement sites and guest-lectured at many universities and colleges in Atlanta.
