This summer, the
Ohio Department of Health (ODH), with support from the Ohio Public Health
Training Center, hosted four (4) Shaping Policy for Health
trainings in Columbus, Ohio to build on the
"Introduction to the Policy Change Process” course held in August 2011.
There were two (2)
Course 1: "Assessing and Framing the Policy Problem” trainings and two (2)
Course 2: "Using Policy Analysis Tools” trainings. Fifty-four persons attended
Course 1 and 44 attended Course 2.
evaluation of comments from Course 1 participants stated that they "found the
workshop's lessons on problem definition and boundary setting helpful to their
work”. Others stated that they "felt more confident in strategically defining a
problem to suit their particular program needs”.
participants felt that the information gained through this workshop helped them
to have "new strategies for working productively with coalitions and
stakeholders in their communities”. Others stated that "they planned to
consider the core values of all stakeholders when conducting policy analyses
and when engaging in issue messaging”. Some participants said that "they gained
a greater awareness of the values of others and the importance of message
The ODH is looking
forward to hosting Course 3: "Influencing the Policy Change Process” and Course
4: "Implementing Enacted Policies” in the spring and summer of 2013.
