In an effort to help ensure that the states with the highest burden of disease and limited resources to address the health inequity, DHPE worked with two states in the South to bring Shaping Policy for Health ™ trainings to health department staff, coalition members, and partners.

In Mississippi, Jackson and Tunica were the sites for two Introduction to the Policy Change Process SPH™ trainings held on August 7th and 9th, 2012, respectively. There were 41 participants in Jackson and 51 in Tunica. Dr. Victor Sutton, Director, Office of Preventive Health for the Mississippi State Department of Health, and current DHPE Board member, welcomed the participants. Dr. Cassandra Dove, Director for the Chronic Disease Bureau, hosted the trainings.

Montgomery, Alabama, was the site of an Introduction to the Policy Change Process SPH ™ training on August 28, 2012. Jim McVay from the Alabama Department of Public Health
Bureau of Health Promotion & Chronic Disease (and former DHPE Board member) provided the welcome to the training for the 34 participants.
Leslie Knox with the Alabama Strategic Alliance for Health, Coordinated Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Education Program was the host for the training.
