Alabama and Mississippi had their first Shaping Policy for Health ™ Trainings in August

In an effort to help ensure that
the states with the highest burden of disease and limited resources to address the health inequity, DHPE worked with two states in the South to bring Shaping
Policy for Health
™ trainings to health department staff, coalition members, and
In Mississippi, Jackson and Tunica were the sites for two
Introduction to the Policy Change Process SPH™ trainings held on August 7th
and 9th, 2012, respectively. There were 41 participants in Jackson
and 51 in Tunica. Dr. Victor Sutton,
Office of Preventive Health for the
State Department of Health, and current DHPE Board member, welcomed the
participants. Dr. Cassandra Dove, Director for the Chronic
Disease Bureau, hosted the trainings.
Montgomery, Alabama, was the site of an Introduction to the
Policy Change Process SPH
™ training on August 28, 2012.
Jim McVay from the Alabama Department
of Public Health
Bureau of Health Promotion & Chronic Disease (and former DHPE Board member)
provided the welcome to the training for the 34 participants.
Strategic Alliance for Health, Coordinated Chronic Disease Prevention and
Health Education Program was the host for the training.
