A Resource for Health Education
and Health Promotion

Welcome to the Unintentional Injury Prevention Website developed by the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and the Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE), with technical assistance from the CDC, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. This site was designed to help strengthen the relationship between health education, behavioral science and unintentional inj ury prevention and includes a wide range of resources including general information, funding resources, and useful contacts.

Directors of Health Promotion and Education  (DHPE)


DHPE's  mission is to promote health promotion and health education as core disciplines of public health practice by advocating strategies to address the nation's leading health problems. Members represent directors of health promotion and health education at state health departments, US Territories, and Indian Health Service areas. The association prides itself on its leadership role in proactively shaping public policy by advocating priorities and enhanced resources for health education and health promotion. Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention (DUIP)

DUIP's research and prevention programs target two types of unintentional injury: (1) transportation injuries, such as those related to older drivers with medical impairments, young drivers, alcohol impaired drivers, and pedestrians; and (2) home and recreation related injuries,  such as those related to falls among older adults, residential fires, bicycle related injuries, and playground or sports related injuries.   Injuries among high-risk populations are a special focus.
