Clarification- From a $5 Billion to $6.25 Billion Setback in the Prevention Fund

Posted By Administration, Friday, February 24, 2012
Our colleagues at Trust for America’s Health tell us that the size of the cut, while it was scored by the Congressional Budget Office at just over a $5 billion savings over 10 years, the actual cut will be $6.25 billion of the $18.75 billion that would have been appropriated between FY13 and FY22.  The Fund will be maintained at its current $1 billion level for five years, followed by two years at $1.25 billion, two more at $1.5 billion and the final year of the cycle at $2 billion.  In subsequent years, it will remain at $2 billion.  Second, while the President’s FY13 budget had already provided its suggested allocations for what was expected to be $1.25 billion in available funding, the ball is already in Congress’ court to figure out how to spend what will now be $1 billion for FY13.
